Darius Garland Hopes Collin Sexton Remains With The Cavaliers

Darius Garland and Collin Sexton known as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ dynamic backcourt with the catchy name “sexland” are set to take a trip together to Turks and Caicos where they will take part in many fun activities and get plenty of sun and maybe even some hoops.

Sexton and Garland have been close ever since the Cavaliers drafted Garland in 2019. Darius and Collin have a great off-court relationship but Darius hopes that their on-court relationship can continue. Sexton played only 11 games last season before a nasty knee injury took him for the season. During that time Darius Garland became an NBA All-Star and led the young Cavaliers to a great with the help of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley.

“That’s out of my control,” Garland said when asked by Cleveland.com about his feelings on the Cavs re-signing Sexton, the fourth-year guard who is ahead of schedule and doesn’t have any restrictions in his recovery from a torn meniscus. “But I hope so for sure. The decision is up to the Cavaliers — and the rest of the NBA.” he added.

Darius Garland praises Collin Sexton

Collin Sexton is a restricted free agent which means the Cavaliers can match any offer that a team makes on the young guard. This helps a team from losing a star to a big market organization strictly due to a gap in financial ability. It also keeps teams from having to vastly overpay players.

Sources say that Collin Sexton has many teams that want him due to his work ethic and his competitiveness. Some of those teams include the Indiana Pacers, The Orlando Magic, and the Detroit Pistons. The Magic had a chance to draft Collin Sexton in 2018 but instead opted for center Mo Bamba.

Will the Cavs re-sign Sexton?

The Cavaliers are very fond of Collin Sexton as they feel he is a very important part of the winning mentality they are building in Cleveland. The Cavaliers missed the playoffs by losing in the play-in tournament as they got into that situation by the number of key players injured throughout the season.

Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio were lost for the year, Evan Mobley was hurt for a few weeks, Darius Garland missed games with a bone bruise, and Jarrett Allen broke his finger on a block attempt towards the end of the regular season. The Cavs are a playoff team when healthy and maybe even a deep playoff threat now that they have some experience. It will be very interesting to see how they grow and if they will resign Collin Sexton. Only time will tell.
