The Johnny Depp verdict is officially in. The jury has made their final decision in the defamation case of Johnny Depp against his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, per Deadline. The trial — which has become one of the biggest celebrity stories of the year — lasted for six long weeks as the jury and the public heard testimony from Heard’s side that claimed Depp abused her multiple times throughout their relationship.
UPDATES: Jury rules in favor of Johnny Depp in his defamation suit against Amber Heard! The jury has come to the conclusion that Depp’s team proved defamation against Heard. The jury has awarded $15 million in damages to Depp. The jury has also ruled partially in favor of Heard, and ruled that she be awarded $2 million in damages.
The jury is back in the courtroom for the reading of the verdict.
Everyone is currently waiting for the jury to return. The legal teams are in the courtroom awaiting the jury. Amber is also there, but Johnny is not.
The jury failed to fill out the damages section of the paperwork, which means there is a winner in this case. The verdict will be read when the jury returns from the deliberation room.
The verdict has been reached and the jury has entered the courtroom. There was a problem with the filed paperwork and the jury has to go back to the deliberation room.
For his part, the “Edward Scissorhands” actor claimed that Heard was lying about the abuse and that his ex-wife was actually the abuser in the marriage. Both sides showed photos and videos of alleged abuse injuries and arguments during the trial, and it seemed that everyone had an opinion about what they thought really went down during their marriage.
After weeks of testimony and online debate about the case, the jury started deliberations on Friday and had plenty to consider. In addition to the Johnny Depp verdict in his defamation case, the jury also had to consider Amber Heard’s counterclaim against the actor. In addition to the defamation determinations, the jury would also be responsible for figuring out damages that would be paid to the parties involved.
The trial has been taking place at the Fairfax County Courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia. Depp and Heard were there during all the days of testimony and both took the stand in their own defense as well. Things got heated multiple times in the courtroom between the actors and their respective lawyers.
Following closing statements on Friday, Depp spent the weekend in London, where he was spotted hitting the stage for a jam session with Jeff Beck. Depp isn’t expected to be in the courtroom for the reading of the verdict, but Heard will reportedly be there in person. According to Yahoo, Depp got a standing ovation during the performance, as it seems that many of his fans are standing behind him despite all of the drama that has come from the abuse allegations and lawsuit spectacle.
In court, Depp’s lawyers revealed that he was looking to try to pick up the pieces of his life and career, that he claims Heard destroyed with her abuse claims. It will remain to be seen how Depp’s career may change following the reading of the verdict on June 1.
